super size me !


I shot this photo in a mall in Las Vegas last year. Just impressed by the parachute size ! 

The effect of obesity is impressive in the US and Central America. In the 60's, the average man weighed 75 kg and the woman 63 kg. Women have actually reached 74 kg and men are now 87 kg in average.  In textile, most of the Caribbean and South American countries retailer supply their need in mega warehouses located in Colon a duty free city lost in the middle of nowhere. I met last year in Colon, Panama a textile supplier who told me that he recently had to triple the size of his showroom dedicated in XXL sizes due to the raising need. 

On the other way, you may find in Colombia the best sellers strings locally called "hilo dental" (aka "dental floss") vs. "mata passion" (or passion killer) represented with the bigger sizes.

That brings up a great issue about marketing. Is it normal ready to wear companies still emphasize on slim modells? How can we explain the difference between the ideal picture and the actual reality?

I believe that our society might be a little bit disconnect with what people are really about, whereas celebrities spend so much time building their bodies thanks to work out and plastic surgery, and average people exercising less and less, and eating worse and worse.

RECUERDO ESTE DESFILE TEX EN MEDELLIN, Pero claro que es verdad!!! en Medell[in se muestran las tendencias de silueta, textura y color, hilo vs cachetero!!! cada uno pensado en un tipo de consumidor, lo mejor es que sea uno que el otro van de la talla xs a la xl, y en Panam[a encuentras m[as ofertas de xxl y etc...el designer planea un consumidor final y el consumidor final simplemente escoge su talla en la silueta que considera se adapta a su modo de vestir!! claro.. no siempre el m[as adecuado para su contextura f[isica....(cada cliente con su cuento)
LEONISA, lanz[o el agno anterior un bra pensado en las mujeres que tienen una talla de bra aumentado por las cirug[ias est[eticas, (boom en Colombia y latinoam[erica)tallas q antes no se encontraban en el mercado o almenos con disegno que no fuera mata pasion!!

Gracias por tu comentario Angela lo que dices. Ese desfile, era tuyo !! Es interesante ver como evoluciona la relacion de la gente a su cuerpo y su vestido. Si tenes fotos del bra de Leonisa, mandamela asi la publico...
